A kitchen remodel is the biggest upgrade most Odessa homes ever get — and the cabinets are the biggest line item in it. This page walks through what a remodel actually involves, how the cabinet portion works from first sketch to installed boxes, and what the cabinets realistically cost, so you can plan with real numbers instead of guesses.
Every remodel is different, but most of them include some mix of the same work:
The cabinet work is where Permian Cabinet Design comes in: design, an honest price range up front, and cabinets built to fit your kitchen instead of trimmed-down stock boxes.
The cabinet side of a remodel runs in three steps:
Cabinet pricing here is figured by the linear foot — one foot of cabinet run along the wall. The tier sets the rate, and the rates below are installed ranges:
Base cabinets count at the full rate. Upper cabinets count at 70% — they're shallower and use less material. Tall cabinets like pantries and oven columns count at 130%, because they run floor to ceiling. So a mid-size remodel kitchen with 18 feet of bases, uppers over 10 feet, and a 3-foot pantry counts as 18 + 7 + 3.9 = 28.9 linear feet, which puts the cabinet budget at:
Countertops, appliances, and any plumbing or electrical moves are separate from the cabinet number — a realistic total remodel budget plans for those on top. For the full pricing breakdown, see the cabinet prices page.
Plan on weeks, not days. The design and measure step is quick — days. The build is the long part: cabinets made to fit your kitchen take real shop time, and rushing that step is how corners get cut. Installation itself is usually the fast part once the boxes are ready. A full remodel with layout changes, countertops, and flooring runs longer than a cabinet-only swap, and any contractor who promises you a finished kitchen in a weekend is selling you something. Getting the design and price range settled early is what keeps the whole project moving.
